QT3 HEPA Filter

Replacement E11 HEPA filter for the QT3 portable air purifier. 2 × QT3 HEPA filter HEPA filters capture particulate pollution like PM2.5, dust and pollen. HEPA filters are the key to clean air, so make sure to replace them regularly. The QT3’s HEPA can give you up to 800 hours of clean air.

The QT3 portable HEPA filter protects you from air pollution

Air pollution is a serious environmental and health issue. And it’s hard to escape – even our homes are filled with these dangerous microscopic particles.
The QT3’s HEPA filter effectively traps particles like PM2.5, dust, pet fur, viruses and mould. You won’t have to worry about your allergies or asthma any longer!
All Smart Air filters are certified to GB13554-2008 (now updated to GB13554-2020) & GBT6165-2008 standards. This is the Chinese equivalent of EN1822 / ISO29463 and is independently tested.

Are HEPA filters effective against COVID?

A common concern is whether HEPA filters can filter viruses like the COVID-19 coronavirus. HEPA filters remove particles greater than or equal to 0.3 microns, but virus particles are smaller. The coronavirus measures 0.06 to 0.14 microns in diameter. Are air purifiers then powerless against viruses?

Actually, HEPA filters work great at capturing viruses. This is because a HEPA filter works not like a net, but through a process called diffusion. Learn more about how this works here.

How often should I change my QT3 HEPA filter?

We recommend changing the filter after 800 hours of use. The QT3 has a built-in feature to remind you when 800 hours of use have passed.

Can I wash a dirty HEPA filter?

Unfortunately not. We ran experiments to test this and found that washing HEPA filters does not prolong their lifespan. In fact, washing HEPA filters with water actually decreases performance. That’s why we recommend you replace your QT3 HEPA filter after the maximum hours of use.

Huge surface area captures 99.5% of pollutants

HEPA filters are simple – larger filters can clean more air. The Sqair HEPA filter has an expanded area of 1.55m², equivalent to 22 sheets of A4 paper.

Effectively traps particles as small as 0.005 μm

The Sqair’s HEPA filter can clean 99.5% of above and below 0.3 microns, PM10 and even 0.005 micron particles.
Why HEPA Filter? We actually found the filter to be more effective than a filter for the Sqair.

How long can I use the Sqair HEPA filter?

HEPA lifespans are tricky. Purifier companies like to give lifespan numbers without proper reasoning. Clearly, the HEPA filter will not last as long in UK air as compared to Swiss air. We estimated the lifespan of the Sqair’s HEPA filter using two methods. Based on Beijing data, we recommend up to 1500* hours of use. This is roughly equal to 6 months if you use the purifier 8 hours a day.
* The filter lifespan will vary according to the pollution levels in your location. Using air quality data from the W.H.O., we can estimate that the HEPA lifespan for the UK will be 2300 hours or 9 months. Please use this figure as a guideline only as this is the average across the whole of the UK and London will be more polluted than the Scottish Highlands.

Sqair VOC Filter

HEPAs capture particulate pollution (things like PM2.5, PM10 and pollen). Activated carbon filters get VOCs. These are hazardous gases that normally pass right through a HEPA. As always, we’ve tested these filters, and all the data is available online. This is the replacement carbon filter for The Sqair / The Sqair Chemical Warfare air purifier.

What is an activated carbon filter?

HEPA filters capture particles like small PM2.5 particles. Activated carbon, on the other hand, captures odors and gases like volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs include harmful gases like formaldehyde and benzene, and can cause cancer, throat irritation, dizziness, and other not-fun side effects.

How the Sqair cleans your air

*The carbon filter is an optional add-on. Not everyone needs carbon, so we let air-breathers choose whether they want carbon or not.

Does everyone need a carbon filter?

Not necessarily. Not all homes have dangerous levels of harmful gases or VOCs that would call for a carbon filter. VOCs are more common in homes:
Purifier companies have a financial incentive to convince people to buy carbon filters. They make more money if they can scare people into buying carbon. We won’t do that. Check the facts and data first before spending your money.

Does activated carbon really work?

To answer this question, we ran tests with an Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid gas detector that can detect VOCs and many other harmful gases. In an enclosed porch, we lit three cigarettes (known to emit formaldehyde and benzene), turned on a Cannon fan with a carbon filter, and tracked VOC concentration. We also ran a control test of a fan with no carbon attached.
The blue line shows how the carbon layer effectively reduced VOC concentrations.

SA600 HEPA Filter

Replacement H13 HEPA filter for the SA600 HEPA air purifier. HEPA filters capture particulate pollution like PM2.5, viruses, bacteria, allergens, dust, and pollen. HEPA filters are the key to clean air, so make sure to replace them regularly. The SA600 HEPA can give you up to 9 months of clean air.
* The GBT 18801 standard recommends replacing HEPA filters after effectiveness drops to 50% of its initial value. Our lifespan tests were conducted in Beijing but the UK average lifespan is based W.H.O. air quality data. Our filter calculator gives you a rough guideline of lifespan based on how many hours a day you run your air purifier but note, the lifespan will vary depending on the pollution levels in your city and is based on running at top speed (it will last longer on lower speeds).

Blast Mini HEPA's massive area captures 99.97% of pollutants

The Blast Mini HEPA filter is huge — 10 times the size of our Original DIY HEPAs.
We tested over 10 different HEPA materials before deciding on using an H13, 99.97% grade HEPA filter. That means it can capture 99.97% of those particles above (and below) 0.3 microns! The Blast Mini HEPA’s efficiency means it’s suitable for health facilities like clinics.

How often should I change my Blast Mini HEPA filter?

We tested a HEPA for 200 days to get a sense of how long HEPAs last in real Beijing air.
Based on that data, Paddy estimated a HEPA lifespan of 3150 hours* for the Blast Mini. This is roughly equal to 13 months* at 8 hours of use every day.
